I am the LBhealthcare Clinical Lead
I qualified as a physiotherapist in Portugal, from Escola Superior de Saúde do Alcoitão, in 2018. Soon after, I gained clinical experience working in private practice and later with a local rugby club in S. João do Estoril.
My desire to expand my horizons and career opportunities led me to move to England in 2019. In 2021, I was offered the amazing opportunity to join LBhealthcare and here I am!
I enjoy involving my patients in their care, as they have the power to influence and improve their rehabilitation and educating them so they know what their options are and what to expect from treatment. Furthermore, setting goals is pivotal so that patients know what we are working towards and how can we achieve it efficiently. MSK conditions and sports are my passion.
Personally, I am a big fan of exercise and physical activity. I enjoy dancing, running and martial arts.
I studied physiotherapy at Coventry University, following which I worked in the NHS completing rotations in various fields, including stroke rehabilitation, acute cardiorespiratory and MSK.
I am interested in the human body and fascinated by how holistically the body is connected. I believe that it is important to consider the way in which muscles work together and how they work, what causes pain in the body and what can be done to resolve it and how the brain and nervous systems connect to different structures of the body and affect the way we move and perceive pain. I am also interested in how psychology and beliefs influence the way we move and perceive pain. I believe in considering biological, social and psychological factors together to provide the most suitable plan for patients so that they can improve and resolve their conditions.
I decided to specialise in MSK physiotherapy as it was the area of physiotherapy which I enjoyed the most and I found that my talents were there. I enjoy the systematic approach of assessing patients and find that I am at my best when working with logic and being able to measure results. I have a keen interest in fitness and believe that at any age, we should strive to optimise our function to be able to live independently and pain free throughout our lives. I would like to help patients to achieve these goals.
Having worked for the NHS, I was keen to work in the private sector and was delighted to be offered this amazing opportunity at LBhealthcare.
In my free time, I go to the gym and enjoy spending time with family and friends. I also love hiking, nature, watching films and playing games.
I graduated from the Nottingham School of Physiotherapy, have worked in the NHS for over 25 years and have a special interest in Orthopaedics and shoulder pathologies. For the last seventeen years I have worked in the Rehabilitation centre at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth as a Senior musculoskeletal Physiotherapist. I have also worked in the private sector at The Spire, Southampton and for a year overseas in New Zealand. I joined LBhealthcare in 2009.
Outside work I enjoy the outdoor life and a range of sporting activities including tennis. and belong to local gym. I am a keen netballer, playing with a successful premier league team in Southampton.
I am married to Kevin, who works at Dorset Orthopaedics, Ringwood making and fitting fitting artificial limbs.
